RECORD BREAKER: North Nowra-Cambewarra’s Graham Davidson scored his maiden first grade century last Saturday.
AS the Shoalhaven District Cricket Association moves into day two of round 10, there will be some hard fought deciders to be contested tomorrow in first grade.
North Nowra-Cambewarra showed the other teams what they were capable of last Saturday with their first four batsmen making over 50 runs each.
Bay and Basin will attempt to chase down a massive 351 run total tomorrow after Nick McDonald, Hugh Gillen, Graham Davidson and Dean Tyson got down to business on their home turf.
Making the most of the extremely hot conditions, Norths topped the 300-mark for the first time in its 19-year history in first grade, and finished the day with 8/351 from 80.3 overs.
The previous highest score by the side had been 297 against Ex-Servicemen last summer, while its best against Bay had been the 4/264 hit up in the opening round of 2008-09.
Norths’ big tally was set up by openers Nick McDonald (81) and Hugh Gillen (58) who shared a stand of 136.
The partnership was dominated by McDonald who had hit eight fours and two sixes and appeared set for 100 when he was caught for 81.
After the visitors removed the openers in quick succession, they were soon under fire from a fresh pair as Graham Davidson and Dean Tyson put on 128 for the third wicket.
After Tyson holed out for 64, Davidson completed his maiden first grade century.
He retired hurt at 101, having struck 11 fours and one six.
This was the first time that there had been two century partnerships in a Norths’ first grade innings.
While this was McDonald’s fifth stand of a hundred with the team, it was his first as an opener.
Despite the shellacking, Leyshon (2/34) and Hill (2/49) were best with the ball for Basin, with Rickwood (1/27) and Labb (1/79) also claiming a wicket each.
Basin showed a united effort in the field, with Tan, Ladd, Leyshon and Rickwood all taking a catch, and Dolby securing a run out.
Over at Bomaderry Oval, Bomaderry is sitting on 8/210 after impressive performances by Jarryd Sue (33), Blake Munilla (20), Jordan Matthews (72) and Hugh Rigney (34 n.o) against Berry-Shoalhaven Heads to make 210 runs. Chris McCarron starred with the ball for Berry, taking 4/53 in 17 overs.
Over at Bomaderry Sporting Complex, Nowra declared at 7/286 after 50.3 overs against Shoalhaven Ex-Servicemens.
Ben Lahene top-scored for Nowra, but was well supported by Sam Watts (36), Matthew Junk (42), Daniel Bryant (36) and Michael Coulter (33).
Ex-Servos’ Brady Spelta and Matthew Tyler will continue to bat tomorrow.
