THE past few days have presented one trouble after another to the Groves family.
The family was holidaying in Narooma when a large tree branch fell on their tent, tearing the fabric and making the tent unusable.
The family decided to pack up early and head home to Sydney.
“We tried to go back via the Kings Highway first,” Mrs Groves said.
“But we couldn’t get through so we thought we’d come the other way and tried to get through the Princes Highway.
“They say disasters come in three so hopefully we are done with them.”
After the family was stopped at the road block on the Princes Highway near Lake Conjola, they headed back in to Ulladulla to seek refuge and a meal.
With hundreds of others doing the same, the family said the only place they could find a table was at a fancy restaurant in Milton, before they headed to the Ulladulla ExServos Club’s evacuation centre for the night.
“The boys both had wagyu beef for dinner,” Mrs Groves said.
The family got to the ExServos at around 10pm and said they were impressed with the organisation of volunteers.
“It has been just great – really,” Mrs Groves said.
Travelling with their dog, Timmy, the family was grateful that the ExServos accommodated them and allowed Timmy to stay near the family, in the courtyard.
The family hoped to head home again via the Kings Highway before lunch today (Wednesday).
