BEAT THE DRUM: The Shoalhaven River will once again be the place for dragonboating this Sunday with race four of the DBNSW program.
GREY’S Beach will be a hive of activity this Sunday with race four of the DBNSW race program, taking place for the first time on the Shoalhaven River.
Races will be sprint 250 metre distance events with fast turnover.
Twenty dragonboat racing clubs will be in attendance, with 80 teams competing on the day as the 2013 racing season gets well and truly under way, culminating with the state titles in March and national titles in July.
Local club the Nowra Waterdragons will be taking part despite its depletion in numbers.
“We have had an exhausting couple of years and last year’s world cup has taken its, toll with some team members taking a well earned break. Those that will be there on Sunday will pull together and do our best, that’s what the Waterdragons are all about,” said team selector Tracy Hillman.
Notices at the boat ramp have been in place to alert recreational boat users of its closure for the day, which happens to coincide with the running of the annual Nowra Triathlon, to be held on the southern side of the river.
These sporting events attract a huge number of competitors to Nowra from Sydney and other regions, as well as interstate, with the Shoalhaven River showcased as a great venue for all varieties of aquatic sporting activities.
