AT about 2pm, shortly after the fire at Deans Gap broke eastern containment lines as westerly winds strengthened.
With the spread of fire police began to set up roadblocks to areas under fire risk.
The first roads to be closed yesterday afternoon were those linking with Main Road 92, they included the intersections of the Princes Highway and Turpentine, Wandean, Twelve Mile, Yerriyong and Wandean roads.
By 4pm, as smoke impacted the highway and flames raced eastward, the Princes Highway was shut in both directions at Wandean Road in the north and Bendalong Road in the south. A few minutes later that northern road block was moved up to The Wool Road.
By 4.45pm the fire front was about two kilometres from the highway.
