DANGER MAN: Shoalhaven Ex-Servicemens’ David Sloane will be looking to give his team the advantage in this week’s clash against Nowra.
AFTER the excitement of the one-day final, where Nowra defeated Berry-Shoalhaven Heads, the next half of the Shoalhaven District Cricket Association’s second grade matches will be two-day games.
It will be a top of the table clash between first placed Bomaderry and second placed Berry at Berry Sporting Complex. With less than 0.2 of a point between the teams, the match is set to be close.
Sixth placed Bay and Basin will take on fifth placed North Nowra-Cambewarra at Sanctuary Point Oval and third placed Shoalhaven Ex-Servicemens will take on fourth placed Nowra at Hayden Drexel Oval.
The Register caught up with Ulladulla’s second grade captain, Malcolm Granger, to find out his tips for tomorrow’s games.
Granger has only been in Ulladulla for six months, however he has been quick to make some impressive bowling figures on the pitch.
Although his team is sitting on the bottom of the ladder, Granger was confident it can pick up its game in 2013.
“We struggled for numbers in the first half of the season because the first grade team fell short, which left some holes for us,” said Granger.
“We had a few kids playing on the side so hopefully they can come through for us again. After the Christmas break we should be back to full strength. We lost four games by less than 20 runs so we were not too far off the mark.”
Bay and Basin v North Nowra-Cambewarra
“North Nowra. They have a steady bowling side and have a couple of guys who showed good form against us, so if they get enough runs on the board, I am confident they can bowl Bay and Basin out.”
“They will be looking to (Alan) Muggleton to make runs with the bat, but their bowling is consistent.”
Berry-Shoalhaven Heads v Bomaderry
“I think Bomaderry will win that. They have (Greg) Wellington, who has scored a lot of runs in the past and has already scored a century this year. Their other top batsman, Mick Blattner, is tough to get out too,” said Granger.
“For Bomaderry’s bowling, captain Ben Lynch is pretty on the spot all the time.
“The last time we played Berry we were short on players so they didn’t get to bat for long, but their best bowler seems to be Peter O’Keeffe. He is just a guy with a lot of experience and can bowl line and length all day.”
Shoalhaven Ex-Servicemens v Nowra
“Ex-Servos. They have got a really strong side if they have all their players there and being at Hayden Drexel Oval should give them the advantage,” said Granger.
“Ex-Servos’ David Sloane got a hundred against us the first time and we were lucky to get him out cheaply the second time we played him. Matt Smit also scored a 100 against us the first time we played. He also bowls left arm off-spin, which is handy to have.”
