VISITOR high season in the Shoalhaven this year is about much more than lazy days at the beach.
Locals and tourists voted with their feet on Wednesday when a temporary ice skating rink opened in the Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre.
The main auditorium has been transformed into an ice rink complete with live DJ nights and movie screenings.
Among the first to rule the rink on Wednesday was former North Nowra teenager Sierra Mann.
Ms Mann, (13), who now lives in the Blue Mountains wrote a letter to council a few years ago to suggest an ice rink for Nowra.
“I had been ice skating with my grandparents and thought it would be a good thing to have here,” she said.
“When I received a letter inviting me to come ice skating at the entertainment centre I thought that was pretty cool.”
It’s hoped the Ice Escape will offer visitors and locals a summer alternative away from the beach and give people something new to experience.
