South Coast MP Shelley Hancock said the recognition was fantastic for the local community and confirms that Huskisson is a world leader in environmental management and sustainability.
“Huskisson is one of the jewels in the crown of the South Coast, welcoming hundreds of thousands of visitors each year and serving as the backdrop to national and international events,” she said.
“It is fantastic that Huskisson Beach has been named a finalist in this year’s Sydney Water Clean Beaches Awards for the South Coast region,” she said.
The Keep Australia Beautiful NSW Clean Beaches – Connecting our Coast Awards encourages and recognises coastal communities, local councils, volunteers and surf lifesaving clubs who protect the state’s beautiful coastline.
The program empowers coastal communities to actively work for a cleaner, more sustainable environment through the sharing of knowledge, experience and resources.
Dune and habitat conservation, environmental education, anti-litter campaigns, waste management and visitor-friendly initiatives are among some of the projects that are awarded.
“The naming of Huskisson Beach as a finalist for the South Coast Region is recognition for the hard working members of the community who continue to ensure that the beach is kept in a pristine state,” Mrs Hancock said.
“I congratulate the entire community, including the Huskisson Woollamia Community Voice, who understand the importance of protecting our coast line and the role in plays in the local economy.”
The winner of the award will be announced at the Regional South Coast ceremony on November 27 at the Mollymook Surf Lifesaving Club.
