The name recently approved by Shoalhaven City Council dates back to the 19th century.
While the Spotlight shop has been associated with many businesses over the past 120 years, it was built for Scottish-born John McArthur who first occupied it in 1889.
His business was known as The People’s Emporium, although the name was discontinued when it was taken over by the Woodhill family.
Apart from being a shopkeeper, McArthur was Nowra’s first postmaster in 1861.
