THE gist of the letter from Joanna Gash last week seems to be that popular opinion is more valuable than informed opinion.

I know Joanna is personally affected by the traffic delays on Illaroo Road, and can sympathise, but that is no reason to insult those who hold a different and apparently more informed view.
The official biodiversity assessment that accompanies the link road proposal recognises that the preferred option is the most environmentally damaging.
It accepts that damage to threatened species will occur, including the Albatross mallee (which Joanna apparently has never heard of, despite several pages of the report being dedicated to that species).
I, like the other concerned residents, do want a link road, but prefer the northern option, which the assessment states is the least damaging. The “ongoing farce” could have been resolved years ago if the powers that be had approved that option – which had been the preferred route a decade before the recent spate of studies.
S. Amesbury,
Tapitallee.
