I WAS encouraged by the letter from B. Cumberland in Monday’s South Coast Register for a number of reasons:
I was recognised as an alternate choice to represent the area.
My views on expanding our ability to communicate
and negotiate with our international trading partners was recognised as solid Labor policy.
My strong belief that the votes in Gilmore must not be taken for granted was identified.
On the negative side, the good writer raised the spectre of the extraordinary levels of unemployment in the Shoalhaven, after 13 years of Liberal representation.
On that last point, try as she might, the local member has not been able to effect any policy, action or activity that resulted in an improvement in unemployment.
On the other hand, I was part of the team that gained $4 million to build infrastructure and help create over 200 jobs in the electorate.
I applaud the writer’s loyalty to Mrs Gash. They might extend this to offering her party some fresh ideas.
Cr N. Reilly,
Kiama.
