Letters to the Editor

9:45 AM AEDT | WELL done, Tony Abbott. You have done your bit for the Coalition cause.
9:44 AM AEDT | TWO recent articles in the SCR, ‘Weed gas is as deadly as cyanide’ and ‘Weed Can Kill’, highlight a major issue that was dismissed by extreme environmental activists at Culburra Beach, and the NSW Parks and Wildlife Service.
9:42 AM AEDT | I AM a resident of Vincentia and I love to walk on the beautiful beaches with my two dogs in the mornings.
9:41 AM AEDT | JOHN Horobin may well know something about algae. However, his dismissive views on the response of sea level to global warming suggests he has narrow scientific understanding (‘Marine scientist warms to global warming effects’, SCR March 10).
12 Mar 10 | OPENING the South Coast Register on March 10, the heading read ‘...so what’s making these kids so ill?’ Maybe a photo shoot knee-deep in the stuff.
12 Mar 10 | THERE is much one could say about the article, ‘Marine scientist warms to global warming effects’ (SCR, March 10) suffice to say, that it is largely just silly.
12 Mar 10 | THE parental leave issue needs to be put into perspective.
12 Mar 10 | LAST week you kindly published my letter deploring the fact that so many of our so-called leaders have a predilection for making policy on the run based on what their pollsters are telling them about the mood of the electorate, rather than on good advice from real experts.
10 Mar 10 | GOOD to see NSW Minister for Water Phil Costa opening the Currarong sewerage plant.
10 Mar 10 | I AM writing in relation to the Weed Refugee article published in the SCR on March 3.
10 Mar 10 | IT’S a lay-down misere — if hospital networks and health systems are taken over by the Federal Government the running of local hospitals should be the responsibility of councils.
10 Mar 10 | PAM Arnold’s comments (SCR March 8) concerning pay rates for men and women do not provide an accurate picture.
08 Mar 10 | K. WOLDRING questions the Westminster system of government because it assumes a two-party lower house.
08 Mar 10 | WHAT a miserable whinger B. Cambourne of Woollamia is with his petty, negative and insular comments regarding the Jervis Bay Triathlon.
08 Mar 10 | MANY students from different parts of NSW attended the Hay War Memorial High School and stayed at one of the student hostels in Hay - Butterworth, Linton, Riverina and Claughton.
08 Mar 10 | I WAS interested to read that Cr Watson is calling for a community process regarding waste collection services (SCR, March 3). I don’t remember council consulting with the public about this when Cr Watson was mayor.
05 Mar 10 | THE Westminster system assumes a two-major party system and an adversarial style of political debate. This follows on from the single-member district electoral system, which tends to produce such a two-party dominant regime.
05 Mar 10 | FEDERALLY, there is some good information about CCTV on the Institute of Criminology website and also by the National Community Crime Prevention Program. NSW Government also has guidelines for planning and implementation of a CCTV surveillance scheme.
05 Mar 10 | IF hundreds of Hells Angels and their acolytes moved into a country town and kept its residents locked indoors against their will we would be appalled.
05 Mar 10 | RECENTLY, I spent several days in the Shoalhaven District Memorial Hospital, including the intensive care unit, after a serious operation.

11 Mar 10 | When The Hurt Locker beat James Cameron's 3D preachy green blockbuster Avatar for best picture, his smile was looking decidedly cracked.
