The undefeated Albion Park-Oak Flats Eagles will go head to head with the Jamberoo Superoos tomorrow night at Centenary Field in what will be another genuine test for the all-conquering defending premiers.
Although they were a man up last week against Berry-Shoalhaven Heads, their tenacious opposition stuck it to them right until the final whistle and the Eagles endured a mighty scare.
Jamberoo head into the blockbuster on the back of a dominant 24-nil second half effort against the brave Shoalhaven Jets but will have to be on their game right from the beginning against a skillful opponent.
Superoos half Johno Dallas’ kicking game will be of vital importance, with the Park’s back three all capable of breaking the line on kick returns.
Albion Park places a lot of emphasis on its go-forward and will be relying on big Scotty Stonnell to lay the platform for the electric backline.
Gerringong will be looking to back up last week’s wonderful win over Milton-Ulladulla when they run out onto Michael Cronin Oval to take on the Batemans Bay Tigers.
Despite a 16-point loss last start to Kiama, the Tigers will have nothing to lose against a Lions’ side rapidly looking like a top three contender.
Patrick Cronin will be keen for a big performance at home, while Tigers fullback Warren Potts may have a long afternoon on his hands if his team-mates don’t aim up defensively.
Another side with top five aspirations is the Kiama Knights, who will be determined to continue the Magpies’ miserable start to the season.
Daniel Struber’s send-off last week was a blow to Berry’s chances against the premiers, but they hung in remarkably well and this is a match that can most certainly go either way.
Kiama are in winning form after they came away from a long Batemans Bay road trip with a 30-14 triumph and will be hoping hooker Kieran Poole will provide them with some incisive runs around the rucks.
Joel Hewitt will be a man to watch for Berry, coming off his two-try performance last round.
Bay and Basin make their way to Bill Andriske Mollymook Oval on Sunday afternoon to do battle with a Dogs outfit that may have taken a confidence hit last week.
Although the offensive potency was still there for all to see with the scoring of 24 points, conceding 38 was a worrying result.
A dangerous side that doesn’t mind playing some off-the-cuff footy, the Sharks won’t lay down easily.
Up front is where the Sharks have the best chance of matching the strong Milton line-up and Jackson Brown’s tussle with Rowan Brown should be a beauty.
It will be a homecoming for the Shoalhaven Jets on Sunday afternoon, when they play their first home game of the year against the Warilla Gorillas.
While, the visitors will understandably go in as heavy favourites, a young and willing Jets team should make it an interesting afternoon.
Exciting young half Sam Stewart will be a focal point for the Jets, while Gorillas captain Linken Hutchinson is sure to play a big role in the outcome.
