Running mum Louise Brown ran exceptionally in her first long distance track race, while veteran Paul Finch performed well showing no ill effects from the previous weekend’s 235 klm Canberra to Nowra relay.
Alan Ozolins continued his good form to score a convincing win in the 1 klm, while Joshua Binks was a deserving victor in the 400 metres.
Nathan Irvine displayed great early season prowess to take a narrow win from Matt Reid in the junior 1 klm race while the girls divisions saw a great run by Niki Woodcock scoring the major points from the always determined Elyse Van-Arkel and Lauren Helmwich a very close third.
The sprint races featured 60 metres and 100 metres and fierce running was the order of the night.
Notable performers included Rixon Russell, Isaac Russell, Luke Moffatt, Josh Hagen, Sophie Doody, Melissa Buckley and Hayley Cox.
That great veteran sprinter Bennie Condon showed there is still plenty of zip in those legs and really put it to his much younger rivals in the open men's events.
Field events were well-contested on the night with large numbers of competitors in almost every division.
Stand-out performers were Kristie Murray, Lauren Helmrich, Niki Woodcock, Ben Green, Troy Waller, Josh Hagen, Tom Doody, Drew Barker, Peter Thamm and Patrick Ozolins in the long jump, and Joshua Binks, Ben Readen, Paul Davidson, Murray Parnell, Matthew Doody, Jacob Booty, Erin Binks, Elizabeth Coutts and Careen Klaus in the high jump.
Shot put saw outstanding efforts by Melissa Swan, Melissa Buckley, Leah Brown, Emma Taylor, Nicci Mutch, Ashley Casey, Emma Parnell, Ray Chambers, Geoff Crook, George Elters, James Rowe, Paul Collins and Daniel Gannon whilst top performers in the discus included Ben Szota, Ray Chambers, Doug McNally, Sam Roberts, Brett Granger, Narelle O'Neill and Melissa Swan.
The final event of the night the relays were particularly keenly contested with no less than 12 teams lining up to do battle.
The handicapper did a marvellous job with extremely close finishes between most teams in both of the heats.
There was actually a dead-heat for first place in heat one between JEB and Rockets with brother and sister Joshua and Erin Binks crossing the line absolutely locked together.
Heat two was equally competitive with less than one second separating the teams in second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth positions, how's that for close racing, great handicapping Jan.
Please note relays will not be conducted tonight, but will make a welcome return next week.
