THE 2008 Nowra Show this year is shaping up to be huge.
But unfortunately one of the event’s big drawcards, local freestyle motorcycle daredevil and recently crowned world record holder Robbie Maddison will be missing.
Maddison has been in huge demand in the United States since his death-defying leap into the record books on New Year’s Eve when he jumped his 500cc Honda 322 feet or just under 100 metres in Las Vegas.
Maddison was booked to appear at this weekend’s Nowra Show, but commitments in the States have kept the record holder overseas.
Although disappointed, Nowra Show Society president John Bennett, said he fully understood Maddison’s dilemma.
“When he actually broke the world record I sent him a congratulatory email to say well done and told him that if opportunities came up while in the US he should take them,” he said.
“Unfortunately in the middle of last week he contacted me and said he had been booked for a major show in the States and wouldn’t be able to get home in time to perform at our show.
“It’s the opportunity of a lifetime for him, he has to make every move count at the moment and as a committee we fully understand his decision.
“In fact we are right behind it, it’s a chance for him to make it in the big time and there is no way we want to stand in his way!”
But for all those freestyle motocross fans out there don’t despair, there will still be three performances at Saturday’s show.
Maddison has put together a great team featuring a number of local riders who are sure to thrill the crowds.
Heading up the team will be Paul “Spud” Spencer, Luke “Stono” Stojanovic, Michael Whalan and Luke McNeill. They will be staging three thrilling shows, performing some amazing tricks at 4.30pm, 6.30pm and 8.45pm. Along with the freestyle motocross there will also be performances by the Toyota Hi-Lux Heroes, where a Toyota V6 Hi-Lux stunt team will entertain crowds with stunts and formation driving, the annual rodeo will be staged Friday night from 8pm featuring steer and bull rides along with an host of other
attractions.
