THE Nowra-Shoalhaven Touch 2008 Winter Mixed Competition grand finals have been completed with some thrilling games at Lyrebird Sports Park.
There was an upset in B Grade with Direct Bikes scoring a solid win against the favourites going into the grand final - Peter Atfield Roofing, four tries to one.
The A-Reserve Grade game was played in great spirit (and with some entertaining sideline support from the AFL boys!).
With one of their main players, Lindsay Higgins, carrying an injury, Bakers Delight lacked their usual attack and ended up going down to Nowra Postman’s Tavern, seven tries to four.
Manildra took on Brown’s Mob in B Reserve Grade.
Not long into the game Manildra stamped their mark and touch experience to take the lead, however complacency kicked in late into the game and this allowed Brown’s Mob to score two quick tries to win the game five tries against Manildra’s four.
The A Grade grand final was intense. A depleted Bellert and Bennett side took the field against Aqua Service, who had a full team.
Bellert and Bennett were quickly on the attack and scored a try in the first few minutes, it took Aqua Service a while to settle down and score to level the game.
This is how it was for the entire game, Bellert and Bennett never gave up and Aqua Service never seemed to find the form that they had shown during the season.
In saying this, Aqua Service still managed to hold on to win the game four tries to three.
Congratulations to all winning teams and commiserations to the runners-up, officials hope to see you all again in the 2009 Winter Competition.
Best and fairest players were announced and presented with awards: Ben Wellington from Koori Kids, Josh Smith from Aqua Service, Julie Gauci from Liam Guilfoyle Psychologist, and Belinda Chittleborough from Aqua Service, being awarded best and fairest for Division One.
In Division Two, the best and fairest players were Michael Byrnes from Red Room DVD and Whitney Fordham from Brown’s Mob.
Director of referees, Belinda Chittleborough made presentations to the regular referees who gave freely of their time every week.
The competition cannot go ahead with these referees, and officials thank you.
Finally, thank you to the Winter Games Committee, Viv, Massive, Dean, Kate, Ben and Danny for all their hard work throughout the season.
