TWO big local fishing competitions were staged last weekend.
The Culburra Recreation Fishing Club's annual carnival attracted around 100 participants who took up the challenge.
There were snapper, tailor, blackfish and flathead, a real assortment of fish weighed in.
I don't have a list of winners as yet but will report them next week for all to read.
The other big event was the Flathead Classic held in St Georges Basin with a big field of competitors taking part.
There were plenty of fish to be had and as you will see from the results, some monsters at that.
Big thanks to all the sponsors who took the opportunity to take part in this event.

This weekend sees the running of the first Squidgy Southern Bream Series.
For those of you who are keen and need to know more, give us a call at the shop.
The first round will be held at the Georges River in Sydney but there are plenty of rounds closer to home in the up and coming months.
For further info jump on the web and go to www.basinlureandfly.org.
au to find out everything you need to know about these awesome bream rounds.
The fishing lately has been insane to say the least.
With some marlin, mahi mahi and big kings all starting to show up, fingers crossed, things will keep on looking up.
Snapper and trevally are in good numbers along with some big flathead in the 30-40 metre mark straight out from the lighthouse.
In the river the bream have been on the chew with blades working well on the last of the run out tide.
Flathead also have been on the bite with both plastics and whitebait both working well.
That's it for this week - stay safe and keep sending in your photos to culburrabait@people.net.au or call 44472087 for all your fishy questions.
Cheers Scotty.
