I’M NOT sure how the weather will be holding up for the rest of the week but it is January, which means it is either going to blow a thousands miles an hour from the north east or a thousand miles an hour from the south.
The days in between have been awesome with some nice fish around to make it all that better.
The rivers and lakes have been fishing okay, considering the amount of traffic that is zooming around.
There have been good numbers of the old faithful flathead, some over 80cm have been caught, be it in the river and the Basin.
The blackfish have been going okay with some caught on Tuesday of the wall at Comerong.
The bass are fired up with some sessions seeing released numbers totalling over 20 fish for an afternoon.
Off the beaches there is still a few salmon moving around.
Early in the morning with a whole salted pillie on some 3/0 gangs has been the best to catch some of those very nice tailor around.
The bream and whiting have been going well with live beach worms the key this time of year.
On the inshore reefs big numbers of kingies have been moving around.
Fish that are around in plaque proportions are not that big but are great fun so remember your size limit and if in doubt through it back.
The size limit is 65cm for those who didn’t know.
There has been some awesome fishing in close, with sampson fish, nice reds and big flathead all about, just a short hop from the coast line.
On a bit bigger hop the shelf has seen a small run of striped marlin move through in the week.
The dollies have been there one day and not the next, as the water warms they should show in better numbers in the coming weeks.
In two weekends time, which is the long weekend, there will be two massive competitions.
One is the flathead classic, which will be held at St Georges Basin on Sunday, January 25 and the other out at Culburra over two days.
It will be held out of the bowling club on January 24-25. I’ll give a run down in next week’s article but any of the local tackle shops should have entry forms or give me a call here and ill send you one out.
Well that about wraps it up we have live beach worms and a huge range of bait so if you’re out this way drop in and have a look around or email us culburrabait@people.net.au or 44472087.
I’ll see you on the water.
Cheers Scotty
