Entry forms can be picked up from the two local tackle shops or at the club when you go to register.
The other massive event this weekend is being held on the awesome waterway, which is no other than St Georges Basin.
The annual 2009 flathead classic is being hosted by the Basin Lure and Fly Anglers Club on Sunday, January 25.
The starting point and sign up will be at the Basin View boat ramp.
The start of fishing will be at 6am from the ramp, with finish of fishing at 2pm. As always there will be a briefing, which will start right on 5:45am.
Entry fee will be $25 per senior angler and $10 per junior, maximum of two adults or one adult and two juniors per boat.
All the entries must be received by 5:30am on Sunday morning with starting positions in order of entries received.
The competition is lure and fly only, so no bait.
The prizes will be awarded for the heaviest flathead senior, flathead on fly, flathead junior, other species, mixed bag (team) consisting of one only of each eligible species and mystery prizes and lucky draw.
This year there has been some massive support shown with prizes.
There are Lowarnce Sounder gps unit, combos from Shimano, Daiwa, some gift vouchers and I’m here to say it will be will worth your $25 if you do alright. As this is a catch and release competition you need a livewell.
You don’t need to go out and spend $1000 on getting someone to build you one just for this weekend.
A tub that can hold around 50 litres of water in it, with air pump in it and your water changed every half an hour you will be okay.
If you have any questions give me a ring here at the shop on 44472087 and I’ll help you out the best I can.
The actual fishing part of this week will be a bit short as I don’t have much more room, so I’ll jump through it quickly.
On the shelf marlin are on with Matty Wall and his crew getting a pack attack of between 5-7 striped marlin, making it a very busy couple of minutes.
They managed to land one along with a host of other boats that have been out there on the shelf.
In closer, the fishing has been hot and cold with some seeing good catches – the others nothing.
I must have been on the nothing all day I was out, because it was very quiet, although there have been some nice flathead and yes the odd legal kingy moving around.
In the river the black fisherman are doing it tough with every fish making them work for it.
There has still been some nice flathead around.
But it sounds like the Basin is also still seeing some big flathead with Nathan Peters releasing a 98 cm dusky back in last week, so hopefully someone will be lucky enough to land him this weekend.
That about wraps it up for this week; for any info or you have a pic email us here culburrabait@people.net.au or 44472087 and I’ll see you on the water.
Cheers Scotty.
