 Moss ripping up the US

Moss ripping up the US

10 Feb, 2012 09:05 AM
SUSSEX Inlet motocross star Matt Moss has wasted no time in his bid

to prove himself on the lucrative

and highly competitive AMA Supercross series.

Moss claimed an outstanding fifth position in the latest round of the AMA 250 West Lites Supercross series at Oakland, California, his best result so far.

The great result follows his top

10 breakthrough at the third round

of the series where he raced to seventh place.

The JDR/ J-Star/KTM Team rider is continuing the form that saw him claim the Australian MX Lites and Monster Super X championships in 2011 and is happy to have reached one of his goals so early in the season.

“My goal was definitely to finish in the top five,” remarked Moss.

“I got a great jump off the gate and have the lead heading to the first corner but was slightly edged out by Martin Davalos.”

Moss placed himself inside the top five as the riders began to tackle the 15-lap main event, and he remained in fifth throughout the first half of

the race.

Riding as high as fourth Moss said a small mistake saw him slip back to fifth just before the finish.

“I started to ride a little tight with a few laps to go and I lost a position to Ryan Sipes which put me in fifth place,” said Moss.

“I’m still very excited with my finish and it gives me a confidence boost to know I can run up front. The goal from here out is to work toward a podium result.”

Moss’ teammate, Wollongong’s Ryan Marmont, was not as fortunate in the main event.

Returning from a practice crash that saw him miss the previous round, Marmont suffered a poor start and

a crash near the mid-way point

eventually finishing the night in

19th position.
