Coach Chris Gautier was pleased with his students’ results with only four members competing, claiming two gold medals.
This was the second selection trial to represent NSW in the Australian Titles to be held in Queensland this year.
All players fought hard in this competitive tournament.
Luke Nolan under 13/under 34kg won his first fight by hold downs, showing consistent strength throughout his bout.
Luke fought on, losing his next two fights, consistently breaking out of numerous hold downs.
This is Luke’s first big year with hard competition and he has proved himself to be a great little judo player with a lot to gain in the next few years.
Blake Nolan under 16/under 42kg took a while to wake up but coach Chris Gautier said when he did his results were immediate with his competitor being thrown in seconds.
Blake did well winning the gold medal which was a big achievement bringing him back to his numbre one ranking in NSW.
Brittany Jackson under 16 continued to fight in an exceptionally high level of judo winning all her fights in a short period of time.
Brittany is the current national champion and continues to uphold her title with brilliant judo.
Hayley Jackson under 16 fought exceptionally well but had some tough opposition and due to a ref’s decision the medal was awarded to her opponent.
Hayley went on to fight for the silver medal, but unfortunately lost.
Hayley did exceptionally well in this hard and competitive division.
Yuukan Judo Club is having a Timezone fundraiser to help with the funding of Blake and Luke Nolan, and Brittany and Hayley Jackson to go to Queensland for the Judo National Championships in June.
