Something for everyone at Berry Show

THE 2012 show season rolls into the area this weekend with the 124th annual Berry Show.

And again there is a host of sporting activities to keep fans enthralled today and tomorrow.

All the favourites will be featured including the woodchopping, showjumping and the rough and tumble of the rodeo.

Tonight’s action will include the popular rodeo with the poddy ride, junior and open steer rides along with the always spectacular open bull ride.

The action will start at 8pm.

Tonight there will also be a whip cracking competition, while trick rider Double Dan is sure to thrill the crowds.

Young local trials rider Jake Walker will amaze you with some of the things he can do on a bike, while motorsport of a different kind will see the popular lawn mower racing back on the agenda.

There is also plenty of action in the woodchop arena.

The competition starts at 5pm this afternoon and will continue tomorrow – all the popular events will be staged - the standing block, underhand, butcher’s block, tree felling and sawing events.

Highlights include the 300mm Australian Underhand Championship which carries $1500 prizemoney to the winner – there is also a host of memorial events throughout the program including the Jim Harris Memorial NSW Single Handed Sawing Championship.

Part of the 2012 South Coast and Tablelands Showjumping pointscore, there is a variety of competitions to be staged over the next two days.

In the SCTSC pointscore riders compete at all the shows in the region from Albion Park in the north, south to Milton taking in Kangaroo Valley, Moss Vale and Camden to name just a few to the west – in fact the pointscore is contested over 12 shows in the region with $700 to the eventual winner.

The action starts at 7.30am today and tomorrow with one of the highlights of the packed program being the Bob Monteith Memorial Grand Prix Showjumping contest which carries $350 first prize.

The memorial events over the next two days honour Berry identities like Reg McBroom, George Miller, Daisy Callaghan, Jim Gallaghan, Kevin Robinson and Jack McGee.

And there is a host of other horse events like bending and flag races.

There are plenty of other sporting events to keep spectators enthralled like the team penning, hay stacking competition and the spectacular dog high jump.
