Miller claims natural gold

04 Nov, 2009 09:24 AM
IT’S not very often you compete at State, national and international level in the space of a month, but Berry bodybuilder Jenny Miller has done just that.

Not only has she been involved in all three levels of competition, she picked up a gold medal in the open talls (over 160cm) category at the INBA (International Natural Bodybuilding Association) Natural Olympia championships.

Miller also managed to come in second in the State titles in the talls and achieved a runner-up result in the same division at the nationals to go along with her bronze in the Masters (over 40) section.

“It was good, very good!” she said excitedly.

“I didn’t know how I’d go in the internationals especially, I really didn’t have a clue.”

Making her success in the sport more impressive is the fact Miller has four children, but she manages to juggle motherhood and competing with ease.

“I’ve got four children, but they’re fine and they love it,” she said.

“They’re a little bit older, they’re 18, 16, 14 and 11, so I can just train while they are at school.”

Being able to compete in such elite bodybuilding tournaments requires an incredible amount of training, with Miller working out five days a week.

“I do a lot of weight training, I do a few hours in the morning five days a week and I get up at four in the morning and walk,” she said.

“I also try and get another walk in at lunchtime and at night as well.

“It’s hard work, you’re hydrating your body with water, you’re drinking nine litres of water for the last week and then you just cut out water altogether for the last 24 hours.”

While most competitors are gearing up to compete once or twice a month at the very most, Miller was in action for three weekends out of four recently, putting a huge amount of strain on her body.

“It was probably too much, basically we just aim for one or maybe two in a month and I was exhausted,” she said.

“There was another competition last weekend, which I was planning to do, but mentally I’d just had enough.”

Mercifully for the mother of four, there is now no elite competition on her agenda until next October.

She also admitted even the fittest of athletes have their vices.

“I just had a week off, so now I’m just back into training and I’ll just get ready for next year and my next major comp won’t be until next October,” she said.

“I’ll be able to enjoy Christmas, I can eat whatever I want, but I always eat pretty healthy anyway,”

“But I must admit I do like my chocolate though!”
