United sneak home - Ulladulla survive second innings wobbles to grab points

01 Feb, 2010 09:51 AM
Ulladulla United 72 and 74 d Bay and Basin 69 and 2/13

After leading by three runs on the first innings, United started its second innings in far from ideal conditions.

There would be three stoppages when rain became too heavy, while play often continued when it was light and misty.

Opener Aaron Wester had scored only a single when he hit a return catch to Bay captain Jonathan Hill.

Skipper Terry Dorrell was solid, but he lost Joseph Lavalle (2) who was bowled by Thomas Frank.

Wes Holmes (0) followed in the next over, caught by Frank off Hill.

Nathan Bell had added three when he failed to beat a return from Grant Morris, and United had slumped to 4/20.

After staying 85 minutes for his 10 runs Dorrell was fifth to go, clean bowled by Robert Matthews.

Harley Bell was the pick of the batsmen, scoring 25 of the first 51 runs before he was trapped lbw by Tom Mason.

Joel Tibbetts (5) was next to go, lbw to Frank, and in the next over David Banks (2) failed to beat a direct hit by Brad Miller.

Robert Cooke stayed half an hour to score 18, before Hill caught him in front.

Last man Peter King (1) was bowled by Frank, and the United innings of 74 was just two better than the first innings.

Hill took the bowling honours with 3/11 from 12 overs, and Frank had 3/17.

Bay started its second innings at 4.47pm and lost two wickets in the opening over from Banks, before a run had been scored.

Miller was caught by Dorrell at second slip, before Hill edged to keeper Craig Smith.

Morris had scored 12 of the 13 runs when further rain caused the abandonment of play after five overs.

Banks’ analysis was then 2/8.
