PREMIERS and current leaders Bomaderry will face North Nowra-Cambewarra when the one-day rounds begin in the South Coast Register Shoalhaven District Cricket Association first grade competition on Saturday.
The match is at Bomaderry Oval where the home team will start as firm favourite.
Michael Coulter was the top scorer last week with a well struck 81, but there are many others who will contribute.
Captain Jed Sawkins has been in good form, with Chris McCarron, Paul Clements and Shane Wallace.
The attack is headed by McCarron and Stuart Jeffrey, with Ben Lynch and Coulter to share the overs.
Norths also batted well last round when Matthew Fairweather and Graham Davidson were the top rungetters.
Nick McDonald got going in the Country Plate, and Lachlan Lamont will provide solid support.
Key bowlers will be Nigel Rowan and Gareth Hopwood, while spinner Hugh Gillen performed well last week.
Berry’s impressive
first up victory
AFTER last week’s impressive victory, Berry-Shoalhaven Heads will take on Ulladulla United at the Berry Sporting Complex.
Chris Bramley and Carl Lang showed promise at the top of the order, and David Crapp will provide extra stability.
Aaron French was among the runs on debut, and Aaron Basile will be keen to do well here.
After his five-wicket bag last week, captain Brad Carey will lead the attack, with strong support from Glenn Brandon, Luke Bramley and Scott Groves.
United had a disappointing match against Bomaderry, but it is certain to improve here.
Opener Robert Cooke is a key batsman, while David Banks, Douglas Chisholm and Joseph Lavalle will provide runs.
It may take a big knock from captain Nathan Bell to give United a chance.
Peter King took five wickets against Bomaderry, and he will feature in the attack with Joel Turner, Daniel Todeschini and Banks.
Ex-Servos still
searching for form
BACK at Hayden Drexel Oval, Ex-Servicemen will be searching for their best form when they take on Nowra.
The home side held on for a draw last week when Warren Ganderton, Alex Butler, Chris Brunton and Scott Fagerlund all made sound starts.
However it will need at least one of them to go on and get a big one here to post a winning total.
Justin Ganderton and Rodney Craig have been the pick of the bowlers to date, and Shane Mackey will take a turn here.
Returning after the bye, Nowra scored a fighting win in its only previous clash and will look to show its best form here.
Nathan Bowden will lead by example, while Jack Watts was top scorer in the side’s last outing.
Ben Lahene also showed promise, while Adam and Kurt Quinlan will also contribute.
Wickets will be needed from Bowden and Alex Legge with the new ball, although they have strong support from Patrick Irvine and spinner John King.
• The lower grade preview will appear in the Behind The Stumps section of Friday’s South Coast Register.
