Long chase for North Nowra

27 Jan, 2010 07:59 AM
NORTH Nowra-Cambewarra has a long chase to match Berry-Shoalhaven Heads’ total of 6/241 when round 11 resumes in the South Coast Register Shoalhaven District Cricket Association first grade competition on Saturday.

Openers Alexander Peters and Karthik Selvakumar have scored four from as many overs at the Berry Sporting Complex, and will look to see off the new ball attack.

Graham Davidson, Nick McDonald and Matthew Fairweather will look to capitalise, and with Matt Hickmott and Dean Tyson in the line-up, there may be a challenge to the target in the latter session.

Skipper Brad Carey and Luke Bramley head the attack, while David Crapp will also keep the pressure on.

Bomaderry in control

BOMADERRY has already secured first innings points against Nowra at Bomaderry Oval, and it will press for an outright result.

Resuming at 2/123 in the 27th over will be Michael Lees (44) and Shane Wallace who is yet to score.

With captain Jed Sawkins, Jason Bell and Paul Sawkins among those to come, the first target will be a total of 220 for a third batting point.

After playing with Southern Zone Colts, Alex Legge comes into the Nowra attack, and he will look for quick wickets.

Jordan Pearson and John King picked up the wickets last week, and they will also pose a threat.

While Bomaderry will be thinking of an outright win, Nowra will look for some solid batting practice in the second innings, for every point may be vital in the chase for finals places.

Outright result likely

AFTER two completed innings last week, Ulladulla United and Bay and Basin are likely to produce an outright result at Lighthouse Oval.

United established a three-run first innings lead, but will look for an improved performance here.

Joseph Lavalle and Wes Holmes were the main scorers in the first innings.

Robert Cooke comes in as an alternate player, and he will look for runs with Harley Bell, Joel Tibbetts and Nathan Bell.

Bay will again look to restrict the lead through Liam O’Brien and Thomas Frank who did early damage last week.

Whatever the target, Bay will accept the challenge, and look for Eugene O’Brien and Grant Morris to get going.

They will be backed up by Liam O’Brien and Heath Tan, but United will fancy its chances with skipper Terry Dorrell and Nathan Bell in such good form.

• The lower grade preview will appear in the Behind The Stumps section of Friday’s South Coast Register.
