BOMADERRY has a 21-point lead on its nearest rival after winning outright in the South Coast Register Shoalhaven District Cricket Association first grade competition’s second round on Saturday.
Bomaderry 248 d
Ulladulla United 141 and 45
Resuming at 2/66 in reply to Ulladulla United’s 141 at Lighthouse Oval, Bomaderry was without Jason Bell (22) who had been injured in a work accident during the week.
However Chris McCarron joined Michael Coulter and their partnership of 105 runs gave the visitors the lead.
Coulter played his best innings in first grade, reaching his half-century from just 46 deliveries.
He was particularly severe on United skipper Nathan Bell, hitting him for three consecutive sixes.
After reaching 81 off 80 balls with nine fours and three sixes, Coulter holed out when he lofted Peter King to long-on where Terry Dorrell accepted the catch.
McCarron soon followed, caught by mid-on fielder Trevor Norton off King, his 24 coming off 63 balls.
Tim Mather (6) followed in King’s next over, when he edged to wicketkeeper Harley Bell.
Skipper Jed Sawkins kept the scoreboard moving, but after the total passed 200 he lost Paul Sawkins (4) who lofted King to Robert Cooke in the covers.
Jed became King’s fifth victim when a leading edge provided the bowler with a return catch.
He had scored 24 off 18 balls, including one four and one six.
The sequence ended when Stuart Jeffrey edged Daniel Todeschini to keeper Bell without troubling the scorer.
Paul Clements hit four boundaries in 22 not out, adding 27 for the last wicket with Ben Lynch (13) who was eventually bowled by Nathan Bell with the total 248.
King bowled superbly to capture 5/26 from 12 overs, four of which were maidens.
Trailing by 107 runs, United was expected to look for second innings bonus points but the wickets started to fall immediately.
Before a run had been scored, Dorrell beat McCarron and keeper Paul Sawkins accepted the edge.
Cooke faced 20 balls for his five before McCarron had him caught by Coulter at slip.
Without addition, Norton was trapped lbw by Jeffrey.
It was 4/12 when Douglas Chisholm (2) was bowled by McCarron.
The best partnership of the innings was 18 for the fifth wicket between Harley Bell and Aaron Wester.
Bell scored 16 off 28 balls before he was bowled by Jeffrey.
Spinner Coulter came into the attack, and he soon had David Banks (2) stumped by Paul Sawkins.
Nathan Bell failed to get off the mark, being bowled by Coulter.
King was next to go, bowled by Lynch who came on second change.
Coulter finished off the innings at 45, trapping Todeschini lbw without scoring, and then bowling Joel Turner (2).
That gave him figures of 4/4 from 3.2 overs, after McCarron (3/12) and Jeffrey (2/25) had done the early damage.
