IN his first match as captain, Brad Carey inspired Berry-Shoalhaven Heads to victory over Bay and Basin at Sanctuary Point Oval.
Berry-Shoalhaven Heads 150 and 2/110 dec. d
Bay and Basin 100 and 5/79
Resuming at 1/63 in reply to 150, Bay appeared well placed to cause an upset but it was not to be.
Opener Liam O’Brien scored 50 of the first 77 runs before he was trapped lbw by David Crapp who had come into the side as an alternate player.
Six runs later Crapp gained a similar decision against Eugene O’Brien (3).
Without addition, skipper Jonathan Hill (11) was caught by Luke Bramley off Carey.
Worse was to follow for Bay lost three wickets with the total on 87.
Carey bowled Chris Battagliolo (1) and had Brad Miller (0) lbw.
Scott Groves came into the attack, and he had Tom Mason caught by Luke Bramley.
Danny Eccles moved the total off the devil’s number, but at five he was bowled by Groves.
The innings ended at 100 in the 41st over when Carey disturbed Robert Matthews’ stumps, giving him figures of 5/21 from 17 overs.
Groves had 2/9 and Crapp 2/15.
It was an aggressive Berry opening pair of Chris Bramley and Carl Lang whose 65-run stand was broken in the 12th over.
Bramley had hit four boundaries in 39 when he went lbw to Matthews.
Lang (21) was caught Hill off Eccles with the total on 82.
After the declaration, Luke Bramley bowled both Bay openers with the total two in their second innings but Hill stayed firm, hitting an unbeaten 34 in giving his team a batting point.
Stumps were drawn shortly after, with the total 5/79.
