South Coast kickboxers strong

16 Oct, 2009 09:15 AM
THREE kickboxers from Nowra’s Southern Fitness and Martial Arts Centre turned in strong performances at Rob Murdock’s Full Contact MuayThai and Kickboxing event in Newcastle.

Rob Murdock’s is the ISKA president, with the three locals coming up against some top class fighters from all around Australia.

But with the backing of a good crowd from Nowra/Bomaderry they put on a good show.

Fourth fight on the card was Leanne Coombes, from Bomaderry.

Leanne was fighting at 63kg (light welterweight) and was up against what appeared to be a strong fighter from Newcastle.

Though this was not the case, as a much stronger and fitter Leanne dominated her opponent from the bell, knocking her down twice in the first round and KO’d her in the second.

Trainer Richard Neradil said it was the result expected.

“Leanne’s dedication to hard training has been flawless over the last eight weeks,” he said.

“Leanne was all over her opponent and I’m sure she can see now why I made her run up that hill so many times!”

The second local fighter up was Arron Thompson, again trained by Richard Neradil, fighting at 78kg (super middleweight).

Arron also had a great fight winning convincingly in three rounds.

He controlled his fight from the start landing some big punches and head kicks throughout the fight, rattling his opponent several times.

Neradil said he could not have been happier with Arron.

“He was composed before the fight, and maintained that for three rounds taking his time and picking his shots,’ he said.

“Arron has followed a hectic training program, as all our fighters do, and has reaped the benefits of his hard work with a great win.”

The last local fighter was big Aaron Pease fighting at 95kg (heavyweight).

Aaron’s fight went three rounds but he lost on split decision.

Aaron is 183cm (6 foot 4), and his opponent was still a little taller.

After a shaky start, with the other fighter coming out hard for the first 30 seconds, Aaron defended well and proceeded to come back almost taking the fight in the third round.

His opponent tired and felt the pain as Aaron put in some big leg kicks.

I’m just so happy Aaron dug deep and listened to what I was telling him,” Neradil said.

“I have seen many fighters get KOd easily after a hard start like that, although Aaron slowly took back control of the fight and just ran out of rounds.

“A great first fight and a loss which he will learn so much more from.”

Southern Fitness and Martial Arts Centre will have three other fighters competing in Sydney early next year and 10 fighters currently training for a full contact promotion to be held by Southern Fight Promotions on April 24 next year at Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre.
