Dubbo 48

SEASON 2010 has gotten off to an excellent start for the Kennedy’s Tour Shoalhaven Tigers women’s side, who proved too good for the Dubbo Rams 65-48 at the Woolshed.

Although coach Ray Hannett admitted there were plenty for his side to work on offensively, he was pleased with the impressive team performance in what was a tricky round one road trip.

“It was our first game together so we weren’t too sure how we were going to go, but it was a pleasing effort so early in the season.”

Hopes of a comfortable victory for the visitors were soon dashed as the Rams played some quality basketball to ensure the opening half was a tight one.

Although things weren’t clicking with ease on the offensive side of things up until that point, it was a third quarter blitz that bankrolled the win, with the side’s shooting consistency definitely lifting up a notch.

Top scorer for the Tigers was Shelley Bates with 19, while Melissa Holcomb chipped in with 17.

THE news was even better on Sunday afternoon for the Tiger women, blowing the Bathurst Goldminers off the court 89-44 in an excellent display.

It was another team effort that helped derail the hopes of the opposition as Kate Kennedy sunk 21 points in a dominant performance.

“The good thing about Saturday’s night’s and Sunday’s games is that every girl helped contribute to the score,” said coach Ray Hannett.

“Everyone is improving, everyone is scoring and now we can look forward to our home double-header with the men against Queanbeyan in a couple of weeks time.”

Unlike the previous evening’s match, the side were on top from the opening quarter, shooting with excellent accuracy and boxing out their taller opponents.

Shelley Bates continued on from where the left off against the Rams, scoring 19, while Kelly Hunter contributed 12 in the comfortable win.
