Would-be Mayor wins reprieve for centre

30 May, 2008 10:09 AM
THE Nowra Youth Centre has been given a reprieve after it appeared set to face major bills for power and internet that would stretch its limited resources.

When the youth centre was established, Shoalhaven City Council agreed to pay the electricity and internet accounts, in part because council based a youth liaison officer at the centre.

However the youth centre’s committee was recently told council was about to pull the pin on its power and internet payments, potentially leaving a large hole in the youth centre’s budget.

But that decision has been overturned, following lobbying of senior council figures including Mayor Greg Watson, who was unaware of the move by staff to cut the payments.

The lobbying came from Dennis Argall, who has spoken about running for mayor and has been invited to join the youth centre’s committee.
