Known as the Woolly Way, the shared cycleway-“artway” will run from Woollamia Village to Huskisson but is only partly finished.
The Woolly Way Pathway Committee chairman Garry Kelson said the 2.2km path was slowly being constructed 150 metres at a time.
He said the committee spent the past 18 months applying for the funding.
“This is a very significant grant for us and we are very grateful,” he said.
He said the committee would still need to fundraise and sell pavers to complete the pathway but the grant would significantly further its progress.
The funding was a part of the state government’s Community Building Partnerships program.
The pathway was chosen as one of 20 projects on the South Coast.
“There was strong competition for the available funds and a high level of interest from the community with almost 3000 applications received across the state in total,” said South Coast MP Shelley Hancock.
For people interested in keeping up with the path’s progress, a sign has been installed just down from the Huskisson Police station to show how much of the path has been completed.
