WHEN George Sutton sets off to walk the Kokoda Track, he will be helped on his way by the generosity of veterans from a different conflict.
At the Shoalhaven on Show Expo on Saturday, George was presented with a cheque for $1100 from the local Vietnam Veterans Association, $1000 of which was an anonymous donation.
The 15-year-old indigenous Bomaderry High School student had already raised $3000 selling raffle tickets and donuts.
He has also been getting himself in shape by regularly tackling some of the steeper hills around Cambewarra.
He will be 16 when he sets off to retrace the steps of the World War II soldiers who held the line against the advancing Japanese.
He hopes to bring back some great photographs and memories, which he will put down in a diary.
The Shoalhaven Kokoda Experience is an initiative of both the Federal Member of Gilmore Joanna Gash and the Shoalhaven Area Consultative Committee.
