A total of 29 units are being built in Ritchie Street under the stimulus package funding, and the project is expected to be handed over to Southern Cross Community Housing by the end of the month.
Southern Cross chief executive Marg Kaszo said the organisation would be managing the units for Housing NSW.
While the units were predominantly one and two bedroom, she said the project would free up larger homes that were desperately needed in the current accommodation crisis.
Ms Kaszo said several people would be moved from larger homes they had occupied for many years, raising families that had since moved on, leaving singles or couples under-utilising family homes.
