Three-year ban after morning of ‘twisties’

13 Nov, 2009 11:14 AM
A NOWRA East man caught drink driving has been disqualified from driving for three years and given a 100-hour community service order.

In Nowra Local Court this week, Robert Leslie Dennis, 39, of Quickmatch Street pleaded guilty to driving with a blood alcohol level of .21.

He was stopped by police for a roadside breath test at 11.45am on October 1 after they followed him from St Ann Street to Ellis Place in Nowra.

Dennis told them he had had a drink only 10 minutes ago, so they waited five minutes before testing him, noticing that he smelt of alcohol, had bloodshot eyes and was unsteady on his feet.

Arrested and taken to Nowra Police Station for breath analysis, Dennis told police he had drunk seven to eight ‘twisties’ of VB between 7am and 11.35am that morning after a heavy night drinking the night before.
