THE Waste Busters will be out in force this Saturday – and will be targeting waste at Vincentia Public School’s annual food fair.
The amount of waste generated from previous food fairs concerned the Parents and Citizen Association, which decided to do something positive to reduce it.
All plates, cups and forks will be made from compostable material.
The waste will be put into large paper bags, mulched in a machine and placed into compost heaps, which will be used at the school.
Parents and Citizens member Peter Dooley, who is coordinating the project, has been visiting the school each Tuesday and meeting with the School Representative Council whose members have become the Waste Busters.
“There will be waste monitors [the Waste Busters] on the night, making sure the waste is put into the proper bins and Shoalhaven City Council will have a display featuring its compost program,” Mr Dooley said
The food fair, which runs from 5-8pm, will feature Israeli, Japanese, Indian, Mexican and Greek food stalls and there will be a barbecue and vegetarian food available.
Children’s servings will be on offer.
