String man

TERRY Hennessy has made everything from dulcimers to puppets (including props for the original Thunderbirds). But, as he told DAYLE LATHAM, it’s not a job if you love it.

KANGAROO Valley’s Terry Hennessy has been a puppeteer, sculptor, musician and an instrument maker during his lifetime and yet he insists he retired at age 26.

It sounds crazy, given over the past 60-odd years he’s earned a healthy living, spent time in some of the globe’s most cosmopolitan cities, played music with world renowned artists and now, in his twilight years, settled in the Valley.

Once you know his story though, it’s easy to understand how this man with sparkling blue eyes and a passion for the things he puts his hand to, considers his lot in life fortunate.

To read all about Terry's story, grab the South Coast Register on Wednesday (February 1, 2012).
