THIS year is Nowra Public School’s 150th anniversary and to celebrate year 1 class 1J made some scarecrows to enter into the Nowra Show.
The class chose to make a scarecrow of Queen Victoria, as she was the queen of England and Australia at the time the school was started.
It seemed appropriate having a queen to make a king as well, so the class chose to make a Michael Jackson scarecrow, because he was the king of pop.
Teacher Sue Jones said her class had been working on the project for the show since returning to school after summer holidays.
“It’s been very messy, there has been lots of straw and drawing and glueing going on here,” she said.
Nowra Public School has a stall at the Nowra Show and they are hoping plenty of people will drop by and say hello today and tomorrow.
In the lead up to the school’s 150th anniversary, the stall features old memorabilia and photos form school days past.
“We are interested in collecting memorabilia from the public, so people can leave their details with us at the stall and we will contact them about it,” Mrs Jones said.
All of Nowra Public’s year one and two students are at the show today and have been looking forward to seeing all the scarecrow entries, especially their own.
After judging the scarecrows will be located near the animal nursery.
