THE official launch of almost $1 million worth of new Rural Fire Service assets will take place in Shoalhaven on Saturday.
Cambewarra’s new $320,000 satellite fire station was completed a few months ago.
The facility has space for two fire trucks and at this stage will house one, while the other will continue to be housed at the actual Cambewarra Rural Fire Station on Illaroo Road.
RFS business and project manager superintendent Mark Williams said the satellite station would mean faster response times for Cambewarra.
“Previously, an incident in Cambewarra meant volunteers had to drive up to the Illaroo Road station then bring a fire truck back. This will be a lot quicker,” he said.
The other official opening on Saturday morning involves Culburra Beach’s new fire station extensions, and the official handover of the brigade’s new fire truck.
Mr Williams said the extensions at Culburra Beach were needed to house the new pumper, and cost in the vicinity of $200,000, of which the volunteers contributed $20,000 from fundraising.
“The new urban pumper for Culburra is worth about $260,000 and has replaced a 1980 model truck from Melbourne,” he said.
