Park under attack again

03 Jul, 2009 09:58 AM
VANDALS attacked the Bomaderry Regional Park again this week.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service officers early this week found vandals had painted graffiti over a number of structures in and around the picnic area at the park adjacent to Narang Road, Bomaderry.

This comes shortly after an incident a few weeks ago when the toilet block in the same picnic area was damaged by vandals and is still awaiting repairs to be carried out.

NPWS Nowra Area Manager Greg Tedder said vandalism had been the rise in the past few years, and included an act of arson in October 2006 which caused significant damage to the toilet block.

“It is disappointing to see such a beautiful community resource continually vandalised,” Mr Tedder said.

“National Parks staff and community volunteers have worked hard to improve the picnic area and walking tracks so that the park can be enjoyed by local and visiting families.

“Such behaviour is mindless and spiteful.

“Ultimately the cost of such vandalism is borne by the community. This is now becoming expensive,” Mr Tedder said.

“I’m sure that in some cases people know things about such vandal attacks and could help us with our investigations.”

If any member of the public has information that can assist in catching the offenders they can contact the Nowra Area Office on 44286300 or police on their assistance line 131444.
