NOWRA Anglican College student Dominique Tynan has been named among the state’s elite scholars, topping the state in one of the most popular subjects - personal development, health and physical education.

The list of the students topping each of the HSC subjects was released yesterday, ahead of the full HSC results becoming available this morning.
Dominique’s name was prominent among the list, becoming the first Nowra Anglican College student to score a first in the state.
However the success is just another stepping stone for the promising student from Kangaroo Valley, who has already been offered scholarships to study at Sydney University and the University of NSW.
Her aim was to study medicine at UNSW, and said all she needed was the marks as she already had a scholarship waiting for her.
However she will not be checking her marks until tomorrow, as she is spending today camping, hiking and kayaking as she prepares for the Duke of Edinburgh award.
An active participant in sport and particularly gifted in science, Dominique was selected earlier this year as one of six students representing Australia at an international youth science event in Canada, where more than $1.5 million dollars of prizes and scholarships were on offer.
Her selection in the Australian contingent came after Dominique was chosen to attend the National Youth Science Forum in January.
Dominique is not the only student achieving remarkable results this year.
While students throughout the region will today celebrate their successes in HSC studies, fellow NAC Year 12 student Michael Goldman will also commemorate tertiary success.
After being accelerated through his Year 12 English studies last year while still in Year 11, Michael was invited into a prestigious tertiary course in philosophy run by the University of New England.
The course was exclusively for accelerated students, and while the 60 taking part were simply the best of the best the NSW schools system could produce, Michael finished a credible third in the course.
“It was incredibly interesting, and really exciting to do so well,” Michael said yesterday from the queue to get into last night’s U2 concert in Sydney.
While he was told he finished third in the state, Michael was not due to find out his mark for the course until today.
While most HSC students were up early anxiously checking websites, emails and text messages this morning for their HSC results, Michael expected to sleep in after attending the concert, however that did not mean he was not keen to find out his results.
After last year obtaining the marks of 95 for advanced English, 90 for extension one English and 92 for extension two English, he knew he needed good marks in his remaining subjects of legal studies, modern history and extension history to qualify for an arts/law course at Sydney University.
He said completing four units of English last year along with his Year 11 subjects was “good fun”.
“It also made this year very relaxing,” said the 17-year-old from Huskisson.
