Mr Weir, who is best known for his passionate work on conservation efforts along the Shoalhaven River, was presented with a NSW Maritime Medal Certificate of Commendation.
NSW Roads and Ports Minister Duncan Gay said a panel of independent representatives from the boating community joined Maritime to judge the nominations.
“Since the inaugural presentation of State Maritime Medals, 39 individuals or groups have been recognised for their outstanding contributions to boating.
“These medals are an opportunity to recognise special individuals or groups who through their dedication, passion and toil are delivering benefits to a countless number of people,” Mr Gay said.
“They have enriched our community through their selfless commitment.”
Mr Weir received his award during a presentation at the Cruising Yacht Club, Rushcutters Bay.
Meanwhile on a local level in recognition of his outstanding commitment to the health of the Shoalhaven River, Riverwatch has awarded Mr Weir life membership.
