Mission Australia welcomes jobs boom

29 Jan, 2010 08:52 AM
A LOCAL job agency believes the area is on the verge of a positive employment trend with more positions vacant being advertised.

Mission Australia’s business manager Amber Turnbull said employers were definitely looking for more workers.

“Two months ago, we were only seeing half a page of jobs being advertised, now we are seeing up to four to five pages,” she said

“Online we were only seeing three or four jobs and now there has been a huge increase.

“It’s really positive and we are excited.”

Ms Turnbull said that prior to Christmas helping people get jobs was hard, but now employers were jumping on board.

“We are not talking about employers looking for just one person – sometimes they are looking for four to five,” she said.

“It’s not just us because we hearing good things from others as well.”

Ms Turnbull said the Ulladulla hospitality industry had been particularly busy. The Federal Government’s Kickstart program was given as one of the reasons why more jobs were being advertised.

Under the program, which winds up on February 28, eligible employers are entitled to a range of bonuses.

Mission Australia wants to support and encourage local employers and job-seekers to make the most of the program before it ends.

Mission Australia Shoalhaven placed over 335 youth and unemployed into sustainable work over the last four months.

Ms Turnbull said they are on a mission get the Shoalhaven unemployment rate to drop.

She added their jobseekers were always looking for more work experience opportunities.

Employers seeking more information on the Kickstart program should call 13 11 24.
