NSW Health Director of Health Protection, Dr Jeremy McAnulty, said many people up to 45 years of age might not be immune.
“Two doses of the measles, mumps, rubella vaccine are recommended to give lifelong protection. Many young adults are at risk if they have never been immunised, or if they only received one vaccine as a child,” said Dr McAnulty.
Anyone who has not had two doses of the MMR vaccine is strongly encouraged to get it, particularly as NSW has recently had a significant increase in measles cases.
NSW residents under the age of 45 can get the MMR vaccine for free from their GP.
