MEMBER for Gilmore Joanna Gash has dismissed as untrue a suggestions in Friday’s Australian Financial Review that she was intending to retire.
The suggestion was carried in a lengthy article analysing the ALP’s strategy to win marginal seats including Gilmore at this year’s federal election.
A paragraph near the end of the article referred to “retirements by sitting Liberal members in Gilmore and Macarthur”.
“I’ve just seen it,” said a surprised Mrs Gash on Friday, “and I’m about to ring the Financial Review to ask for a retraction.”
“Over the last three terms people have said I would retire or that I would not see out my term. But I have no intention of retiring.
“I am really looking forward to going north,” she said, referring to the new areas incorporated into Gilmore after the last electoral redistribution.
“And if I am lucky enough, I will see out my term.”
