HE claimed his name was Graham and then a few hours later Stephen Clarke, but the confusion did not stop Kevin Andrew Gates being ordered to perform hundreds of hours of community service work when he faced Nowra Local Court last Monday.

The 44-year-old from Mulgen Crescent, Bomaderry, was ordered to perform the community service work as a direct alternative to being sent to jail.
The court was told Gates arrived at the North Nowra home of a former partner on the night of March 1 and after knocking on the door claimed, “It’s Graham, let me in.”
The woman recognised the voice and refused to open the door, however Gates kicked it open.
A man was also in the home and Gates grabbed an ice-cream out of his hand and rubbed it in his face, before pouring beer over a lounge while verbally abusing the woman.
Police were called and stopped Gates as he drove along Illaroo Road. When asked his identity he told police he was Stephen Clarke, a flatmate of Kevin Gates.
The claim was repeated when Gates was taken to Nowra Police Station, where a breath test revealed he had a blood alcohol level of 0.180.
Police checks revealed Gates’ true identity and that he had been disqualified from driving.
Police also realised Gates was wanted for an earlier incident involving the same woman, when he walked into her home on December 30, breaching an apprehended violence order.
Magistrate Doug Dick noted Gates had 27 offences on his record, many of them involving violence or major traffic offences.
Mr Dick also said Gates had been given positive reports after attending rehabilitation at Oolong House.
He sentenced Gates to 200 hours of unpaid community service work and disqualified him from driving for three years over the incidents on March 1, and a further 50 hours of community service work for breaching the apprehended violence order on December 30.
