A PUSH to have every newborn baby tested for hearing impairment has been welcomed by Australian Hearing.
Research by the National Acoustic Laboratories (NAL) has proven that children born with hearing loss can develop the same language skills as others if diagnosed early and treated.
Director of Research at NAL Professor Harvey Dillon said it was critical hearing loss be detected at birth.
“We believe that this early exposure to sound enables their brains to develop the neural connections that will help them easily understand speech for the rest of their life,” he said.
