NOWRA will soon be inundated with past farmers from The Farmer Wants a Wife. The farmers are expected to hit the Shoalhaven in March for a reunion weekend.
On March 9, past farmers and female contestants will be attending a function at the North Nowra Tavern which will feature a ute show and shine, mechanical bull riding competition and a live auction for the farmers chosen charity, Aussie Helpers.
The event will kick off at 5pm with $5 tickets, which can be purchased at the bar. All proceeds will be donated to Aussie Helpers.
The extravaganza originally started small when Jamie Morgan, of the fifth series, suggested a catch-up with friends and other farmers in Nowra. Mr Morgan moved to Nowra when he was 17 to join the navy and stayed for eight years.
“Nowra is so pretty. I rode motorbikes a lot so it was a great place to get out and about. I made some bloody good mates as well,” he said.
One of those mates, Donna O’Connor, who is the promotions and events manager for the Roxy Cinema, a sponsor of the event, is helping Mr Morgan organise the reunion.
“I was going to visit Nowra, stir up a few mates and invite some extra people along. Other farmers started to show some interest and I just thought, ‘Well, why don’t we just invite everybody?’” he said.
Although numbers are yet to be finalised, Mr Morgan said out of the 42 farmers who have been on the show, close to 20 were coming, along with past female contestants.
The Farmer Wants a Wife has been a hit show for the Nine Network, capturing the hearts of country romantics.
The show has also been remarkable for racking up five weddings and four babies since it debuted in 2007 and has been recently recruiting new farmers for the 2012 series.
Mr Morgan is currently looking into trying to organise a flight for the farmers with HMAS Albatross.
“The navy takes a lot of farmers and puts them out to sea, they also do a lot with farmers so it would be great to organise something,” he said.
“But it’s mainly for us guys and girls to get together and a good opportunity for any farmers out there to come and give us a crack and a good chance for the public to come and meet us,” he said.
Neither Fremantle Media nor the official The Farmer Wants a Wife television show were aware of, or associated with the planned reunion.
