A LEGAL battle over naming rights has robbed Nowra of one of the world’s most explosive entertainment acts.
The Crusty Demons were due to appear at Nowra’s Rugby Park on March 27 as part of the Beyond the Apocalypse Regional Tour being organised by Global Action Sports.
However a legal battle over rights to Crusty Demons performances in Australia has seen a major shake-up of the regional tour, with Nowra one of several planned appearances dropped from the schedule.
Shoalhaven City Council’s director of finance, Peter Dun, said while Global Action Sports had yet to sign contracts, the organisation had agreed during months of negotiations to include Nowra in the schedule.
“But there are things at play that are obviously far greater than us,” Mr Dun said.
He said the show’s demise was “disappointing”.
“From council’s point of view, this is the sort of entertainment we want to attract to the city, because we believe we have the facilities needed to host events of this type.”
Council was still “very keen” to attract the Crusty Demons to the area, and “we won’t be giving up,” Mr Dun said.
The rights to organise and promote Crusty Demons shows in Australia has been taken over by Dainty Consolidated Entertainment, which was already organising events in the capital cities.
“The restructure of the first part of the Beyond The Apocalypse Tour and other circumstances beyond our control unfortunately means it is not possible to do all the shows originally planned by Global Action Sports,” explained Paul Dainty, Chairman and CEO of Dainty Consolidated Entertainment.
“We’ve put together a revised schedule that allows us to get to as many regional areas as we can this time around,” Mr Dainty said.
“We fully intend to get back to those regions that missed out with a Crusty Demons show in the very near future.”
The new regional tour starts March 20 with the program including rescheduled shows in Bendigo and Orange, along with performances in Albury, Gosford, Mackay, Bundaberg and Cairns.
