LOCAL people with a disability and their family and carers will have the chance to attend a Disability Trust conference right here in the Shoalhaven.
The Disability Trust will host a conference for people with disabilities on April 17 at the Shoalhaven Campus of the University of Wollongong.
The Your Life – Your Choice conference aims to build skills and empower people, offering them the opportunity to learn self-advocacy and assertiveness, connect with their peers for mutual support as well as share their knowledge and experience.
Tania Hayes will be the keynote speaker at the conference that promises to offer many opportunities for people with disabilities, carers and service providers.
Ms Hayes is the official ambassador for Carers Australia, a carer representative for Carers NSW and an honorary custodian for Sir Roden Cutler Charities in Sydney.
The conference will also provide workshops with presenters from The Disability Trust Recreation Illawarra, Intellectual Disability Rights Service, Criminal Justice Support Network, IDEAS, Your Time Carer Counseling and Support, Illawarra Citizen Advocacy and Department of Ageing Disability and Home Care.
The day promises to celebrate difference and provide information, personal development opportunities and recreational activities for all.
Registration for the event is essential, however inability to pay the registration will not exclude anyone.
