BOODEREE National Park was one of the major winners when the Clean Beach Challenge’s South Coast winners were announced yesterday.
Fittingly the award ceremony was held at Booderee’s Green Patch Beach which won two awards, while Cave Beach, also in Booderee, won an award.
Green Patch won the NSW Resource Recovery and Sydney Water Conservation award, while Cave Beach won the Young Legends award.
Pebbly Beach, in Murramarang National Park near Bawley Point, was the overall winner.
Huskisson Beach was highly commended in the Alcoa Litter Prevention section.
All winners are now in running to win the State awards, which will be announced on December 4 in Sydney.
Now in its ninth year, the Keep Australia Beautiful NSW Clean Beach Challenge enhances beachside communities by promoting environmental awareness, personal initiative and civic pride.
The program recognises and rewards coastal communities, local councils, volunteers and surf life saving clubs and schools for initiatives that enhance, protect and preserve the NSW coastline.
Keep Australia Beautiful NSW Chief Executive Officer Peter McLean said all entries should be commended.
“Many of the beaches are showing true initiative in dealing with their delicate beach environments,” he said.
